Sail Away: The Beauty of Silversea’s Silver Spirit
I’m quite vocal when asked which is my favorite cruise line. It is resoundingly Silversea. So when my husband decided to celebrate his birthday on the spring transatlantic crossing of the Silver Spirit, I totally jumped onboard. We reserved one of the Silver Suites, located in their own little haven on the top two decks.
Arrival at Port Everglades
Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale is one of the easiest cruise terminals to reach. It’s just a 10 minutes from the airport and no more than 15 from the Fort Lauderdale beach area where we stayed a pre-night at The Ritz Carlton. Since the Silver Spirit was the only cruise ship in port on our Monday sailing date, arrival was a breeze. We dropped our luggage with the curbside crew, showed our IDs and cruise documents without a wait in line, then hopped onboard with a flurry of welcomes and a glass of champagne. After a buffet lunch our suite was ready and waiting.
Silver Suite
The Silver Suite is darn near perfect with a nice wide balcony and enough room to spread out and relax in its 742 square feet, including an 118-square-feet veranda.
The suite’s bedroom is separated from the living area by a sliding door, and there is plenty of storage room in the very large walk-in closet. In the living area is a table for four, sleeper sofa, and occasional chairs as well as a large TV with on-demand movies. The suite’s bath offers double sinks, a whirlpool tub, and separate shower. Our butler (all accommodations here are suites and all come with a butler), Rey, came round immediately and made notes on our preferences in wine, pillows, you name it.
Beds are luxurious and large with Pratesi linens, down pillows, and down covertlets, and a choice of bath products including Bvlgari, Ferragamo, or SebaMed. Laundry, dry cleaning, and Wi-fi are included in the top suites, things I planned on taking full advantage of. This along with lush robes, an Illy espresso machine, Bang & Olufsen audio system, and a stocked refrigerator was the makings for one fine stay.
What’s Included
While onboard, Silversea is an all-inclusive vacation. Included are select wines and spirits, soft drinks, and specialty coffees in all bars, lounges, and dining rooms, in-suite dining, 24-hour room service, transportation into town in most ports, even gratuities. So all you’ll need to add to the cruise price is your airfare, spa treatments, and shore excursions.
Honestly, I rarely cruise on any ship that isn’t all-inclusive. Nothing better than to have a drink in the lounge and simply get up and leave when you are ready. Nothing to sign, no bill to pay. It makes for one laid-back, no-worry vacation.
