Presidente Intercontinental Cozumel: Island Bliss
Cozumel is not particularly known for luxury accommodations, but with the recent renovation of the
Presidente Intercontinental Cozumel, opulence is now easily within reach. By far and heads above other resorts on the island and only a 10-minute ride from San Miguel, the island’s main town, the Presidente offers a dreamy setting with spectacular views of the crystal clear Caribbean ocean, a half-mile of private beach, a super sophisticated pool, and updated rooms and suites. You absolutely can’t go wrong choosing this resort for a Mexico getaway.

A private, gated drive down a junglescaped road leads to the resort’s low-keyed entrance and lobby area where check-in is handled while seated with a nice welcome drink. Only one of the resort buildings is high-rise and that one only being 5 stories, while all other buildings are one- and two-story affairs. Guest rooms are a tasteful, contemporary chic with Mayan touches enhanced with a gorgeous palette reminiscent of the sea and jungle.
Hands down my favorite room categories are those in the Reef section overlooking the quietest beach and within steps of the best snorkeling area. In particular the
Reef Suite where a partial wall divides the bedroom from a spacious living and dining area. Best of all is your very own terrace complete with whirlpool tub and the beach and ocean just steps away.

If a suite doesn’t fit your budget go for the Reef Rooms with the same direct beach access.

Ocean Suites, located in the 5-story building, are another great option with their bedroom/living area just off a terrace with super ocean views, and an oversized, glass-enclosed bath, also with an ocean view.

While lovely, I would upgrade beyond the entry category Pool View rooms facing the gardens and adult-only pool. Renovated in 2012, these rooms were not quite ready for an update along with the other categories so are missing the lovely new decor.

Centered around a peaceful, white-sand cove is the Presidente’s sophisticated and luxurious pool flanked by three (soon to be four) restaurants. Head to El Caribeño’s open-air palapa restaurant for regional specialties including a platter of fish tacos, or opt for Italian fare at Trattoria Alfredo Di Roma, or Mediterranean food with open-air sea and beach views at Le Cap Beach Club.

Sip on a frosty margarita while relaxing poolside on two-person plush bed loungers with intoxicating beach and ocean views. Or rent one of the private cabanas, either pool or beachside.

Along with the island’s best spa, tennis courts, a PADI dive center, parasailing, wave runner rentals and offshore fishing excursions, this is THE place to be in Cozumel.
